Why have an Equality & Diversity Charter?

The charter shows our commitment to providing a service which is sensitive for our students and our staff and which reflects everyone’s needs and aspirations.  We aim to positively promote and embrace equality and diversity ensuring everybody has a fair and equal chance of succeeding.

How do we put equality and diversity into practice?

We will:

  • Understand equality and diversity

  • Understand that people are different and have the right to express themselves without fear of prejudice and ridicule
  • Challenge our own prejudices and be willing to change our behaviour

How do we apply equality and diversity?

We will:

  • Create an environment in which students and staff feel comfortable and which is accessible, stimulating, encouraging and supportive of working, learning, achieving and succeeding
  • Aim to employ a workforce which reflects, at every level, the community and the students it serves
  • Challenge the barriers which promote inequality such as attitude, bad practice, ignorance and failure to consider different needs, by raising awareness, training and listening to our students and staff
  • Be accountable for our attitudes and our actions
  • Recognise and embrace our responsibilities
  • Regularly monitor the performance of our policies and the success of our students
  • Monitor and demonstrate equality and fairness in all our services

How do we challenge bad practice?

We will:

  • Share and celebrate good practice
  • Challenge inequality, prejudice and discrimination
  • Not tolerate any form of harassment or discriminatory behaviour against our students or staff
