How do Apprenticeships work?

Apprenticeships focus on the whole job, not just individual skills and you learn through a combination of on and off-the-job training. Your employer pays you a weekly wage and provides you with the on-the-job training which allows you to achieve a, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). You will also spend time at college, usually one day a week, to study for key skills and a Technical Certificate, depending upon the apprenticeship you follow.
