- Each page has a 'Skip to main content' link at the top which will enable people using screen readers to jump directly to the main content without having to sit through all the navigation links
Links
- Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail. In some case the text of the link is already adequately descriptive and therefore there is no title attribute
- Where possible, links are written to make sense out of context
Images
- All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes.
- The site does not rely solely on images to convey information and the site can be navigated with images turned off in the browser
Multi-media
- Where we have used video on the website, we have also included text summaries of the audio
Visual design
- This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout of all pages
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers
- If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable
Viewing style
The website offers a number of style to choose from, which will hopefully assist with your views. These can all be accessed from either the top right of the page or in the explore section at the foot of the page.
Default style
This is the recommended view for pages. Screen size 1024x768.
Larger text style
In addition to changing the text size in your browsers, we have provided an option to increase the size of the text within the website.
Black on yellow style
This style is well suited to users who may find that dark grey text on a white background has too much contrast.
Web Standards Compliance
We are aiming for almost all the pages to be XHTML 1.0 Strict.
The only pages that fail this are those where we use Flash video or Google maps. Hopefully, we will also resolve this in the near future also.
